The Lagos Kids Run 2024 saw the enthusiastic participation of over 1,500 children on Saturday in Banana Island, Lagos.
Organized by St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission, the event brought together children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, representing both private schools in Ikoyi and public schools in Lagos Island and Eti-Osa.
Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, attended the event as a special guest, underscoring the government’s commitment to using sports as a bridge for social inclusion and youth empowerment.
Fatodu applauded the scale of participation, stating, “It’s incredible to see over 1,500 children come together to compete, learn, and inspire one another. Events like this reflect the state’s vision of inclusivity and talent development.”
The children competed in various age categories, with distances ranging from 1km to 5km. The event wasn’t just about competition—it was also a celebration of health, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Parents joined the festivities, running alongside their children and fostering a family-friendly environment.
Funds raised during the event will benefit the St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi Endowment Fund, aimed at supporting educational and athletic programs for less-privileged schools across Lagos State.
“This large turnout is a testament to the growing role of sports in shaping our communities. It’s not just about running; it’s about creating equal opportunities and nurturing the spirit of healthy competition,” Fatodu added.
The Lagos Kids Run has cemented itself as an essential platform for promoting physical activity and community bonding while advancing the Lagos State government’s THEMES+ agenda for social inclusion and development through sports
