The Ondo State House of Assembly has promised to ensure that all state owned media organizations would be vibrant in dissemination of information and creative contents.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Olatunji Oshati, stated this during a familiarization visit to the Owena Press Ltd. and the Ondo State Broadcasting Corporation( OSRC) on Monday in Akure.
Oshati said that there was need for government to invest and place emphasis on the state controlled media outfits’ efficiency and high productivity, saying that communication is a proper tool for a robust relationship between the government and the people.
He said that it was only vibrant journalism that would make government’s programmes and policies to be accepted.
The Committee Chairman, who appreciated the Chairman of the Owena Press Limited, Mr Ademola Adetula, for his unrelenting efforts to keep the print media organization functional despite paucity of funds, asked the outfit to synergise with the House of Assembly.
Oshati enjoined the media organisation to include attractive reports to its paper instead of bombarding the paper with only news items.
Earlier, Adetula said that the Hope Paper, produced by the organization, could only get to three states of Osun, Ondo and Ekiti due to limited cost of operation.
He said that he introduced online initiative to report and contents coming out from the paper.
According to him, the organisation is the largest employer of journalists in the state, dishing out fair and accurate of the government activities and that of people of the state.
At the OSRC, the Committee Chairman commended the consolidation move initiated by Corporation’s Chairman, Mr Kunle Adebayo.
He described OSRC as a unified factor and a pride of the state, asking Adebayo to do his best in ensuring that the OSRC TV was back on air.
“ We came here and we have seen all the chairman has done. The massive renovation and the policy of consolidated stations. All the media stations of the state government have been brought down here and he is massively working on them.
“We are satisfied with what we saw and we can assure the people that in a couple of times, OSRC TV will be back very soon, “he said.
Oshati assured the corporation of the state House of Assembly’s support, asking the corporation’s chairman to always motivate the corporation’s staff so that they could give out their best that would culminate to high efficiency and productivity.
Earlier, the Chairman of the OSRC said that OSRC was a foremost media organization in the state and a bridge that connected the government with the people.
Adebayo added that OSRC was established to give correct and accurate information to the people of the state .
He explained that in order to reduce the cost of operations of the corporation, he had consolidated all the three media stations under one roof.
According to him, the corporation has contacted Benin Electricity Distributor Company (BEDC) to give the corporation a dedicated power line that will supply electricity for at least 16 hours per day.
He stated that the television arm of the corporation had a temporary close broadcast because of thunder strike that affected its mast and some equipment.
Adebayo said that the had installed high technology and recruited young and creative people that could give outstanding contents, promising that the television would soon be on the Gotv cable.
