.. Says club will gain promotion to women's elite league.
The Commissioner who just represented Ondo State on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Gbenga Edema, has expressed his unwavering optimism for Sunshine Queens football club's potential to gain promotion to the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL).
While vowing to actively support the club in achieving its goals of emerging victorious in the qualifiers, which will kick off on June 7, 2023, in Ogun State, Edema stated that Sunshine Queens has what it takes to elevate its status to the prestigious NWFL.
A total of twelve teams will be slugging it out in the competition and only two teams will qualify for the country's women premier league.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Dr. Tob Loko, Edema emphasised that every indigene of the state looks up to the success and triumph of the Sunshine Queens, particularly due to the talent and hard work possessed by the team.
With the qualifiers in sight, Edema described it as an opportunity for the club to showcase its talents and secure a well-deserved position in the elite league.
The erstwhile lawmaker, who expressed his commitment to the development of sports, particularly women's football, stressed that the club has over the years established itself as a force to be reckoned with in women's football in Nigeria.
Edema, who is also the immediate past Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), highlighted the need for increased investment and support for women's football across the country.
He called upon stakeholders, corporate organisations, and well-meaning individuals to rally behind Sunshine Queens towards ensuring their growth and success.
"Having closely observed the Sunshine Queens' performance throughout the championship, I am thoroughly impressed by the determination, skill, and teamwork demonstrated by the players and coaching staff. They have shown immense potential and have proven themselves as strong contenders in their quest for promotion to the NWFL.
"As a fervent supporter of women's football and a firm believer in the power of sports to empower individuals and communities, I am committed to extending my support to Sunshine Queens Football Club as they embark on their journey through the qualifiers towards the NWFL.
"Sunshine Queens Football Club has exemplified the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and resilience, both on and off the field. Their dedication and hard work have inspired many young girls and women across our state and great nation, showcasing the immense talent that exists within our local communities.
