Curator tasks govts. on children's education, total development

The Curator, National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, Mrs Pamela Otuka, has charged governments to prioritise education and total child development through inclusive primary education system.

Otuka made the call on Friday at an event organised by the museum for primary and secondary schools in Ibadan to mark the 2023 International Children’s Day celebration.

She said the 2023 theme: “More Money for Primary Education’’ was apt because of the role primary education played in moulding children’s characters and personalities.

She noted that donations toward children’s education would help to redeem their sociocultural and economic development.

“Giving them meaningful life through holistic upbringing in education and morality will ensure this objective.

“With more funding for primary education, more vulnerable children will enjoy the basics of life.

“Waiving of levies and paying examination fees can also guarantee total child development,’’ Otuka said.

Coordinator of the programme and Head, Education Unit at the Museum, Mrs Abiodun Tinubu, alleged that primary education had been neglected, especially in the area of infrastructure development and funding.

She urged stakeholders to join hands to create an enabling environment for sustainable development in the education sector.

“We desire that the museum community continues to live up to its mandate of keeping history alive through the successful handover of educational and cultural values to children.

“We join the global community to mark the 2023 Children’s Day being conscious of our roles and the expectation of the people around us,’’ Tinubu said.

Highlights of the event were match past, cultural displays and presentation of Miss Simileoluwa Akinseli as the Museum Kid Ambassador. (NAN)
